The sliding bar is not on the IVs. When the internal trap is down, the trap basically unlatches the bottom section of the door from the top section of the door. The bottom section of the door has a lip on the outside which hekps reduce gap size. When the trap is raised, it basically turns the door into one big door. I see - so that lip stays in place with the lower door when operating on high-level platforms (with the exception of cars with this piece seized, as I've heard on the RR.net NJT forum), and when operating low-level, the whole thing moves. This applies to just the IV's, or does it go for the III's as well? -Kurt

There is no seperate piece on the IVs. The bottom portion of the door includes the lip as part of the door structure.
There are problems though with the bottom door half not opening all the way on the IIIs during low level operation, normally a little push wil get it all the way open, and the Vs are notorious for the little yellow bar that reduces the gap on high level not to slide open during low level stops, creating a limbo bar situation.
But getting back to the IVs, there are only two pieces, the top main door part, and the bottom lower level part. Trap is down, the bottom section remains closed and in place. Trap is up, it becomes one big door. There is no seperate sliding piece for high level platforms. The bottom door section provides coverage.
Too bad you're down in Florida, it would be so much easier just to give you the ten cent tour!!!

Excellent! ...and the Vs are notorious for the little yellow bar that reduces the gap on high level not to slide open during low level stops, creating a limbo bar situation. That's what I had heard on RR.net. I hear they also stick open on high-level platforms, leaving a large gap between car and platform, correct? Too bad you're down in Florida, it would be so much easier just to give you the ten cent tour!!! Indeed - I always find it a tad uncomfortable to model something that I have had not seen in person. Leaves too many chances for mistakes. P.S.: I'm not sure if you've taken any underbody photos since, but if you have, let me know. I'm ready for them. If you happen to have a well-lit photo of the rubber end-diaphragm, I could use that as well. Presently using the texture off of a rrpicturearchives.net photo (from an author with a dead email link). Take care, -Kurt

Shaun, check me out on the underbody details here: No holding tank, obviously, this being a restroom-less car. If you folks can spot any problems/missing underbody details - call it out. Still not entirely certain what fits in the recessed sections at the A end, although I do know I have omitted a few details. Take care, -Kurt

Hey Kurt. No pics yet, sorry. From the top of my head, it looks pretty good. I see the air res, battery boxes, the metal shield thingys (yes that sthe technical term).... Just so you know, the commonly seen Comet IV diaphragm image is that on the cab car. On the cab end of the cabcar it looks like one continuous tube that is bent along the door. On the B end of the cabcar and all other Comet IVs the diaphragm looks like three speperate pieces. The two side tube portions along with a seperate tube up top...

I realize the difference on the CC's (with the oddball 90 degree section shoved between the tubes at the edges) - here is what I have for the cars: Problem about that is the texture I am utilizing is from a rrpicturarchives.net user with a dead email link. Go figure. -Kurt

Hey dont forget about the marker lights but the only thing about the comet IV's marker that they use LED's and the pattern of the LED is in the shape of a diamond.

I have some photo's of the comet IV's underbody details! Thank you, Oshiro (I'll need your last name for the credits). I applied them to the cars about 15 minutes ago. This is what I have currently: Second photo shows what is still in need of photographs for textures. Incidentally - how did you get these shots? Couldn't figure it out. Take care, -Kurt

Same texture with a hell of a lot of lighting adjustments done to it to make it look right. Came out quite well though, I'd say - considering I have never seen the GSI trucks in person myself.

Oh, no doubt - even the best phototexture will always need some adjustment. Your photo was perfect for the application, regardless of brightness.

Font I used is "LED BOARD REVERSED." Nice little font to have around if commuter stuff is your bag.
Oshiro, I'll do the Atlantic City cars in good time. More likely then not, the final version of these cars will utilize that destination.
